A Golden Hour Adventure
Some photoshoots feel like a little slice of magic—and some also come with an unexpected adrenaline rush. Makenna and Jordan’s newlywed session with their classic truck was the perfect blend of both.
We planned their shoot around golden hour, that dreamy time when the light bathes everything in a soft, honeyed glow. The idea was to capture the two of them with Makenna’s vintage pickup—something sentimental, nostalgic, and romantic.
The truck had been sitting for a while, and we discovered just how long when Jordan opened the bed of the truck. Out flew an entire swarm of wasps—apparently, they’d claimed it as their new home. For a few suspenseful minutes, we all scattered and regrouped at a safe distance, laughing a little nervously and plotting our next move.
Instead of letting the wasps hijack the whole evening, we pivoted. While the buzzing settled down, we decided to wander into the nearby field, which turned out to be the best detour we could have hoped for.
The field was full of tall, golden grass that moved gently in the breeze. Makenna and Jordan were walking hand in hand as the sun dipped lower in the sky. Those in-between moments—when they weren’t worried about posing, just soaking each other in—were some of the most heartfelt images of the day.
By the time we circled back to the truck, the wasps had calmed down (or found a new place to hang out). We were finally able to finish the session, capturing sweet embraces against the weathered paint, the sunset flaring behind them.
This session is a reminder of why I adore photographing couples—especially newlyweds. No matter how carefully you plan, sometimes nature has other ideas. But it’s in those unpredictable moments that genuine memories are made.
